Hundreds of thousands of pounds of government funding is to be provided to improve flood defences in the Burnham-On-Sea area.
A £315,000 project is to be undertaken in West Huntspill to help alleviate problems of flooding, the Environment Agency has announced this week.
The Environment Agency has also earmarked further funding towards drainage improvements in Brent Knoll (pictured last November) and East Brent following floods last year.
The Lower Brue Drainage Project aims to protect dozens of homes in West Huntspill and is considered a priority.
“The project will be aim to protect 57 vulnerable properties in low-lying areas around West Huntspill. It is aimed at improving drainage and will funded by £304,000 from the government’s flood defence grant fund plus £11,000 from exteneral funding,” the Environment Agency’s spokesman Mike Dunning explained to Burnham-On-Sea.com.
Work is due to start in March and run until the year 2016. It will be overeseen by the Axe and Brue Drainage Board, based in Highbridge.
