Food stocks at Highbridge’s Food Bank have been given a boost by pupils in the Burnham-On-Sea area celebrating harvest festivals.
The children have been encouraged to bring with them a food item to donate to the food bank to help needy local people and, with the backing of their parents, huge generosity has been shown.
Burnham’s St Andrew’s Junior School held its annual Harvest Festival at St Andrew’s Church where the church was full of parents and pupils.
Headteacher Gavin Morris thanked parents who joined in the celebration, adding: “The school council did a great job in picking such a worthwhile cause to receive our donations this year. Well done everyone!”
And Brent Knoll Primary School’s pupils celebrated harvest with a service at the village’s St Michael’s Church. During the service, the pupils in class 1 gave out bread rolls that they had made, class 2 told the congregation all about fair trade and all the children joined in to sing harvest hymns.
Headteacher Karen Davidson said: “Our families have been extremely generous and we are delighted that we have so much food to give to the Highbridge Food Bank.”
