New exhibition of local art opens at Burnham-On-Sea gallery

-

An exhibition of colourful paintings by Burnham-On-Sea artist Peter Howe has opened in the town this week.

The display of artwork is open each day at Sea Breeze gallery in Victoria Street until Saturday August 1st.

Somerset-born Peter trained at the West of England College of Art and has had paintings exhibited locally and further afield in London and America.

“His subjects are varied using thickly applied oil paint, which he sometimes uses straight from the tubes,” Rhonda Mills of Sea Breeze told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Reeds and tall grass are indicated with quick strokes of a palette knife through the wet paint creating an added dimension to the paintings.”

“With most of his work he tries not to include too much detail, letting observers see something a little different each time they look at the painting as the light changes through the day.”

The exhibition includes landscapes from Cumbria to Cornwall, plus boats and boating activities, including the Burnham-On-Sea Regatta.

There are also paintings of 1890’s Bath and Burnham Street scenes, the ‘Endurance’ stuck in the Ice Flow and still life pictures.

The free-entry exhibition has opening hours of 10am until 5.30pm Monday to Friday except Wednesday (with early closing at 2pm) and Saturdays from 10m until 5pm.
