School near Burnham-On-Sea remains closed today after blaze

-

A school near Burnham-On-Sea is closed today (Thursday) after a fire broke out yesterday.

Crews from Burnham and Wells were called to Hugh Sexey Middle School at Blackford, near Wedmore, at around 10.30am on Wednesday after a roof blaze.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service initially sent two crews from Cheddar to the school. Another four crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Wells were later requested, and firefighters stripped the school’s roof tiles to gain access to the fire and extinguish it.

The school confirmed that all pupils were fine. The school, which has 650 students aged between 9-13, decided to close on Thursday.
