Burnham’s Trinity Close Xmas lights raise record £9,000 in three weeks

-

A Burnham-On-Sea cul-de-sac whose stunning display of over 100,000 twinkling Christmas lights has been dubbed ‘Britain’s most festive street’ by the national media has raised almost £9,000 for charity in three weeks.

Since the Trinity Close residents switched on their illuminations on December 1st, crowds of visitors have flocked to see the display.

A total of £8,973 has so far been raised for the two nominated charities – PETAL: The Christine Woodberry Memorial Trust and Burnham’s own BARB Search & Rescue, which operates the town’s rescue hovercrafts and inshore rescue boats. The display could be set to exceed last year’s total of £11,688.

The Trinity Close residents have decorated their homes top to bottom with colourful lights, in addition to roofs, lawns and garden fences, and the display is lit each night from 4.30pm-10pm until January 4th.

Resident Roger Flower told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The amount raised so far is sensational – it’s a record for three weeks into the display and we thank all those who have come along to see the display and support the two charities.”

This year’s display includes moving reindeer, illuminated trees and lanterns, and visitors can also find a toy train display.

The traditional displays have raised a huge total of more than £72,000 since the charity collections began ten years ago.

Visitors are also being asked to be courteous to residents and other motorists by parking sensibly and not blocking drives. There have been delays in the area in recent weeks.
