Rugby and football clubs play charity match for Burnham-On-Sea’s BARB Search & Rescue

-

A unique New Year’s Day football match for charity was held in Burnham-On-Sea involving players from Burnham United Football Club and the town’s Rugby Club.

The keenly-contested game in aid of BARB Search & Rescue was played at the Bay Centre football ground and was watched by a crowd of spectators, as pictured here.

Following a close first-half in which the score was 1-1, the football club’s players pulled ahead in the second half to clinch the game 6-1 at the final whistle.

Over £300 was raised for the game for Burnham’s BARB Search & Rescue, which operates the town’s rescue hovercraft.

“Our Seasiders versus Stags game raised a total of £336.04 for BARB – a big thank you goes to everyone who supported us and the charity,” said one of the organisers. “It was played in a fun spirit to start 2019 and everyone had a great game.”

A BARB spokesman thanked the teams, adding: “We are very grateful to both clubs for raising such a great sum for BARB. As a small independent charity, we rely solely on local donations to keep running and really appreciate the support.”
