Burnham and Highbridge Town Band speaks out after vandals attack their building

-

Burnham and Highbridge Town Band is being forced to consider moving to new premises following a spate of attacks on their band hut.

The band has been based in a building located next to the playing fields off Worston Lane in Burnham for over 40 years.

However, the band says that over the past few weeks its building has been sprayed with graffiti, had rocks thrown at it, and holes have even been hacked in its cladding.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Chairman Steve Symonds said: “Anti-social youths have been disrupting the band‘s evening practice sessions regularly by hurling rocks at the walls and on two occasions raw eggs have even been thrown through the open door, staining a heavy curtain and nearly hitting players.”

“Last week, several band members chased the culprits for some distance, but lost them in the maze of surrounding streets.”

He added: “The Police have been notified of the problems, and have attended several practice sessions and are patrolling at different times.”

“We would be grateful for any information leading to those responsible for the vandalism to their band hut.”

Steve adds: “If anyone can offer the band a safe alternative practice venue at reasonable rates for two hours a week on Wednesday evenings, with space for 25 players and storage room for our music collection, we would love to hear from you.”

Burnham and Highbridge Band plays at many fetes and events and on on Sunday 23rd June will be holding a concert in Burnham’s Princess Theatre at 7pm.
