Police issue appeal after serious sexual assault in Burnham-On-Sea

Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in connection with a serious sexual assault on a 17-year-old woman in Burnham-On-Sea over the Christmas period.

The assault occurred in Burnham between 10pm on Tuesday 23rd December and 2am on Wednesday 24th December.

A 27-year-old man who was arrested on December 30th in connection with the incident as been released on police bail, pending further enquiries.

The teenage victim, who is not from the area, had spent some time in the Reeds Arms pub in Pier Street (pictured above) during the evening and at some point after leaving was subjected to the assault.

“Afterwards, she made her way to the home of someone she knew in the town and the assault was reported to police,” a spokesman told Burnham-On-Sea.com.

“Detectives investigating the incident are particularly keen to speak to a group of men who were seen talking to an American woman at the Wetherspoons pub between 9.30pm and midnight. These men may have important information which could help the investigation.”
