Environment Agency puts Bristol Channel on Flood Watch

-

Huge waves battered Burnham-On-Sea on Friday night (Oct 6th) as high tides coincided with gale-forced winds.

Waves broke over the sea wall along the Southern Esplanade, leaving pools of sea water along roads and pavements, as gusts of wind of up to 60mph blew plumes of spray into the air.

At Burnham Yacht Club, a fishing boat broke free of its anchor, requiring yacht club members to bravely venture out in a dinghy to rescue it.

Earlier in the day, the Environment Agency had issued a precautionary Flood Watch for the Bristol Channel coastline, including Burnham as the series of exceptionally high ‘spring’ tides swept in.

Residents can contact the Environment Agency’s Floodline on 0845 988 1188 for the latest information. More to follow…
