New sports bursaries on offer at Highbridge school

-

Highbridge’s King Alfred School has introduced new sports bursaries for their outstanding 16 sportsmen and women.

The annual bursary of £250 is being awarded to all sixth form students who compete at county, national or international level – and the funding can be used towards the cost of coaching, equipment and travel.

Head teacher Mr Andy Owen told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “As a sports college, we are keen to promote sport at all tiers, from grass root levels through to elite participation.”

“We have a fantastic range of sports and activities for all of our students on offer at the school. However, the bursaries are a recognition of the tremendous hard work, commitment and dedication shown by our students who have to go the ‘extra mile’ to perform at elite level.”

He added that the school hopes the additional funding will encourage students to stay on to study in the sixth form to compete at the highest possible level.
