Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club completes successful season

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Hillview Carnival Club completed a successful 2019 carnival season at the weekend, finishing second in its class overall.

The club’s Caribbean-themed cart, called ‘Iko Iko’, has been cheered on by spectators during the past two weeks at each of the carnivals across Somerset that include Bridgwater, Burnham-On-Sea, Weston-super-Mare, North Petherton, Shepton Mallet, Wells and Glastonbury.

The cart, with its team of 25 children performing onboard, came second in the juvenile category at each of the carnivals during the Guy Fawkes season, including at Saturday’s final event in Glastonbury.

Talking to Burnham-On-Sea.com, Hillview Carnival Club Chairman Duncan Britton said: “We’ve had a great cart this year and it has been an extremely enjoyable carnival season.”

“Our children on the cart have been amazing and did us proud – we were delighted to have 25 children, nine of whom were new to the club, with the youngest being just seven. They dealt with the cold, rain and wind really well.”

“It’s an all-year round job for the team of adult members and parents and who are so committed.”

“Our thanks go to everyone who has supported us this year, including our landlord at Burnham Waste where we build the cart, and also our non-club members for all their help.”
