Work begins in Burnham-On-Sea on creating Diamond Jubilee Wall

-

Thirty young members of Burnham-On-Sea Dreamscheme have designed and made more than 90 tiles which are to appear on a special wall being built in the town to mark this year’s Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

David Lemon of Haven Pottery taught the youngsters how to make and decorate the tiles which are being ‘fired’ in readiness for affixing to the Diamond Jubilee Wall which Burnham Rotary Club is building in Apex Park in time for June’s Jubilee.

Burnham Rotary Club’s Jim Tancock told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “There have been very kind offers of assistance and, to date, several builders merchants have made major contributions including Jewson’s, Travis Perkins, Mark Priddice, Lympsham Concrete and Dulhorne Farm Holiday Park.”

“Following the completion of the foundation slab, a group of first and second year apprentices from Bridgwater College will undertake the building of the wall as part of their construction training.”

“The images on the tiles have been created by the Dreamscheme and will be their interpretation of the Queen’s crown. The tiles and other artwork will be fitted into the face of the wall on both elevations.”

As the wall is celebrating the Diamond Jubilee, a commemorative plaque will also be built into the brick face on both elevations.
