Burnham-On-Sea Food Festival receives cash boost from council

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s Food and Drink Festival has this week received a £2,000 boost from the Town Council towards the costs of holding this year’s two events.

The council’s Policy and Finance Committee gave its unanimous support to an application for operational funding for the two Food and Drink Festivals, giving £1,000 towards each event being held in May and October.

The pair behind the festival presented a compelling case with their carefully collated data covering their financial inclusivity, community education, sustainability and measures of success.

Both 2013 festivals attracted over 6,000 people to the town centre for this free one day celebration of local food and drink.

The organisers, Beverley and Sarah Milner Simonds, said they are delighted at the ongoing support from the council.

Sarah told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “The Town Council have been generous towards over previous three festivals with the loan of equipment, grant funding and of course the Mayor’s visible support on the day of the festival. We are proud of our achievements so far and feel we are putting Burnham on the map, in its rightful place, as the food centre of Somerset.”

Festival co-director Beverley Milner Simonds added: “The 2014 festivals are a bit different – we have listened to feedback. After the success of the Great Burnham Burn Off in September told us you like being on the knife edge of gastronomy and so we are changing the menu and giving you much more to get your teeth into!”

The 2014 festivals will be held on 24th May and 25th October. For more details, see www.burnhamonseafoodfestival.org
