Young seal pup washed up on Brean beach is making a good recovery

-

A young grey seal which was washed up on Brean beach last weekend is making good progress in the safe hands of local wildlife carers.

Gandalf the Grey, pictured here, is putting on weight and making a good recovery thanks to a rich diet of fish at Secret World at East Huntspill.

The seal was found at Brean Cove on Sunday afternoon (October 19th) when a walker spotted the young seal near the base of the Down.

Spokesman Jamie Baker told Burnham-On-Sea.com that the seal was “very frail and underweight and being tube-fed to try and build him back up,” and since then he has reponded well to treatment from the Secret World team.

A webcam on the Secret World website here allows visitors to track the progress of Gandalf.

Burnham-On-Sea.com was first to report earlier this month how a common seal had been washed up on the beach at Brean. A porpoise was washed up on Burnham beach in July last year and a young seal pup was found alive on Berrow beach in November 2005.
