Injured passenger cut free from car after Highbridge accident

-

Fire crews removed the roof of this badly damaged car to get to a passenger inside following an unusual accident in the centre of Highbridge on Tuesday afternoon (February 19th).

The driver of the Mercedes lost control of the vehicle in the Somerfield supermarket car park after the vehicle’s accelerator pedal apparently jammed, sending it into a metal recycling bin at speed.

Fire crews from Burnham-On-Sea and Taunton were called to the scene shortly before 1pm and quickly removed the roof of the vehicle – as pictured here – to help free a female passenger in the car, who was taken by ambulance to Musgrove Hospital in Taunton with injuries that were not believed to be serious. The driver of the vehicle, who was also a female, managed to escape without injury.

Melodie Juste, spokeswoman for South Western Ambulance Service NHS Trust, told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “We were called at 12.55pm to help two females in a vehicle that had crashed into a recycling bin. One ambulance was sent to the scene and a woman was taken to Musgrove with injuries that were not thought to be life-threatening or serious.”
