Syringes and medicines found washed up in latest beach cleans

-

Syringes and medicines were among the debris found washed up along Berrow beach during a beach clean at the weekend.

Over 30 local volunteers joined the latest litter clean organised by the Friends of Berrow Beach.

While the group focussed on removing plastic rubbish, they were shocked to find several syringes and a full glass vial among the debris.

The group’s Honour Greenslade told Burnham-On-Sea.com: “It is concerning to find ‘sharps’ like these during our local beach cleans and shows the importance of the beach cleans.”

Further syringes were spotted washed up along the tideline on nearby Brean Beach following the weekend’s high tides, as pictured above, prompting a warning to beach users to be vigilant.

The beach clean volunteers all follow strict safety rules when finding syringes and other ‘sharps’ to ensure their safety. Sedgemoor District Council now takes away the debris after each beach clean.
