Burnham-On-Sea’s MP supported Theresa May in confidence vote

-

Burnham-On-Sea’s MP gave his backing to the Prime Minister and voted for her in tonight’s ‘confidence’ vote.

James Heappey said he would vote for Theresa May despite a storm of controversy over her Brexit plan.

Burnham’s MP said on social media this morning: “I’ll be supporting the PM tonight. Changing our leader right now would be an act of utter self-indulgence and it wouldn’t change anything on Brexit.”

Theresa May won the Confidence Vote with 200 out 317 Conservative MPs supporting her leadership of the party.

Burnham’s MP gave his support to the Prime Minister’s Brexit Plan last month.

He held a public meeting in the town and described the Prime Minister’s deal as “not perfect” but the “best, pragmatic deal”.

Meanwhile, Burnham’s former MP Tessa Munt has called for a second referendum, saying: “We should go back to the people on the deal – they will make a clear decision.”
